A free domain name for your portfolio

A portfolio link people remember helps more than one more project on it. yourname.portfilio.live costs nothing, needs no card, and points at the portfolio you already have.

Why not just use the host’s address?

your-name-portfolio-x7k2.vercel.app works, but it names your host, it is hard to read out loud, and it changes when you move hosts. A name of your own fits on a résumé line, a LinkedIn headline or a slide, and stays the same when the site moves.

What you get, free

  • A name like yourname.portfilio.live, served over HTTPS.
  • A redirect to your current portfolio, or a parked page while you build it.
  • Direct DNS to Vercel, Netlify, GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages or Render once your account reaches the Resolver tier.
  • No card, no trial, no renewal bill. Namestead pays for the domains with support from the community and publishes every rupee.

Set it up in a few minutes

  1. Sign in on namestead.dev with GitHub, Google or an email link.
  2. Claim your name on portfilio.live (or any domain in the catalog).
  3. Set it to redirect to your portfolio’s current address.
  4. Put the new link on your résumé, GitHub profile and LinkedIn.

For students

Namestead is open to anyone 18 or older; there’s no student check and nothing to verify. If you have the GitHub Student Developer Pack, it includes a year of a real domain from partner registrars, which is worth using too. A Namestead name has no yearly bill for you to remember, so it can be the address you keep on your profile when a free first year ends.

Picking a good name

  • Use the name people search you by: first name, first and last, or your handle.
  • Keep it short and easy to say; hyphens are allowed, dots are not.
  • Names that imitate a protected brand are refused when you claim them, and impersonating a person breaks the Terms.
