How the board works

How the weekly Showcase board ranks listings, how much each vote counts, who can vote, and what we do about arranged votes.

How a week is ranked

A week runs from Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59:59, India time. The board for a week lists the Showcase listings launched that week, ranked by the weighted votes cast during the week. Votes cast before or after the week do not count toward it. When two listings have the same score, the earlier launch comes first.

On Monday at 00:05 India time the past week’s ranking is saved, and it does not change after that: a later vote, a vote taken back or a listing archived leaves the saved order as it was. A listing removed for breaking a rule is no longer shown.

The New tab lists live listings newest first. All time ranks every live listing by its weighted votes, whenever they were cast. A person reviews every listing before it launches, and the operator’s own products are labelled as such and ranked like any other.

How much a vote counts

Votes in Showcase are weighted by the voter’s trust tier, the same way as votes on domain requests and on community posts and comments:

TierCounts as
Ping1
Resolver2
Authority3
Registry4
Root5

A tier goes up with Trust Points. Passes and Trust Points payments add Trust Points. That means payments can raise your tier, so they can increase how much your vote counts. Registry and Root cannot be reached through payments alone. When your tier changes, the votes you have already cast move to the new weight.

Who can vote

  • You need to be signed in, and your account needs to be at least 24 hours old.
  • You cannot vote for your own listing, or one you are credited on as a maker.
  • There is one vote per listing per account. You can take it back.
  • An account that is limited or banned cannot vote, and a banned account’s votes count for nothing.

Arranged votes

Trading, buying or arranging votes, or voting from more than one account, breaks the Community Guidelines. To find it, we flag two kinds of vote for a person to look at:

  • a vote from an account under 7 days old;
  • the third vote or more for the same listing from the same network within an hour.

Flagged votes still count. If we find a vote was arranged, we void it before the week is frozen, and it stops counting. We keep only the network part of a voter’s address, never the full address, and delete it after 14 days.

Launch days

Each listing launches at midnight, India time, on a launch day, and each day holds a limited number of launches. A Resolver’s listing launches on the next free day after it is approved. Authority can choose a day up to 14 days ahead, and Registry and Root up to 90 days ahead.
